Exercising in water is a great way to stay fit and keep cool, especially in the Arizona summer. When our normal body temperature is approximately 98.6 degrees, water’s average temperature of 85 degrees provides a wonderful cooling effect to the skin. However, water safety is important at any age.
A 2014 American Red Cross survey on water safety found that while 80 percent of Americans said they could swim, only 56 percent of the self-described swimmers can perform all the basic skills that could save their life in the water. Capt. Renee Hamblin from Surprise Fire Department will share water safety tips.
