The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a 12-week series for people with pre-diabetes, a condition between “normal” and “diabetes,” that increases the risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Instructors use evidence-based practices to help prevent or delay onset of the disease.

Start dates and times for the DPP series are:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1:30 p.m., Center for Health & Wellbeing, 14719 W. Grand Ave., Surprise
  • Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1:30 p.m., Center for Health & Wellbeing, 14260 Denny Blvd., Litchfield Park
  • Thursday, Aug. 25, 1:30 p.m., Center for Health & Wellbeing, 13180 N. 103rd , Sun City

Registration is required for DPP, and completed paperwork must be turned in at least five business days before the start date. Scholarships are available for those who meet income qualifications through the generous support of BHHS Legacy Foundation. To register, or for cost/scholarship information, call (623) 832-WELL (9355).

Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) is an 8-week series where instructors teach participants how to manage their diabetes through healthy eating, regular physical activity, medication management and other actions. Cost of the DSME program is fully covered by Medicare and most other insurance providers.

Start dates and times for DSME are:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 23, 9:30 a.m., Center for Health & Wellbeing, 14719 W. Grand Ave., Surprise
  • Wednesday, Aug. 24, 9:30 a.m., Center for Health & Wellbeing, 14260 Denny Blvd., Litchfield Park
  • Thursday, Aug. 25, 9:30 a.m., Center for Health & Wellbeing, 13180 N. 103rd, Sun City

A physician referral is required to register for DSME. Physician referral and completed paperwork must be turned in at least five business days before the start date.
