While most of the nation ponders how federal health care legislation will affect them, at Sun Health this month we celebrate a nationally recognized community health program that has benefited nearly 2,000 west valley residents. In less than two years, Sun Health Care Transitions has educated individuals about healthier ways to live, developed enhanced medication regimens and prevented most participants from being readmitted to the hospital for the same illness.

On Nov. 9, 400-plus party-goers helped transform the Wigwam Arizona into a“magical” place during the 2013 Healthy SUNsations Gala “The Magic of Miracles” fundraiser.
The event conjured up $125,000 in support of Parkinson’s patient care and research at Banner Sun Health Research Institute, and at Banner Boswell and Banner Del E. Webb medical centers.
Nearly 2,000 chronic disease patients served through nonprofit program
SURPRISE, ARIZ. – Nov. 6, 2013 – Anniversaries are often marked by a special surprise. For Sun Health Care Transitions, that surprise was doubly exciting. The team celebrated its second anniversary by receiving a second consecutive “Outstanding Leadership in Population Health Award” from the Care Continuum Alliance (CCA). Representing more than 200 health companies, organizations and individual providers committed to improving the health of populations, the CCA focuses on raising care quality, improving health outcomes and reducing costs for individuals affected by chronic disease.
We hope everyone is getting their thumbs and paddle-raising techniques in top shape for Saturday’s Healthy SUNsations Gala - “The Magic of Miracles.” Our event is sold out, and we hope to see you there. We have more than 80 live and silent auction items for you to bid on. – all in support of Parkinson’s treatment and research at Banner Sun Health Research Institute, Banner Del E. Located in Litchfield Park near Peoria, AZ, Sun Health’s La Loma Care Center has expanded its service options and capabilities to include a short term rehabilitation unit – also called short stay assisted living – with even more improvements on the way. Continue reading
The way health care is experienced and delivered is undergoing seismic change, making it more important than ever for consumers, especially seniors, to proactively manage their own health care. That was the take-away message from “Proactive Care in a Reactive World,” a talk given by Sun Health Business Consultant and Social Worker Cameron Svendsen at a recent Community Education session hosted at Sun Health’s Grandview Care Center in Sun City West. Arizona nonprofit Sun Health’s Community Education Series presents free ongoing health and wellness programs on a variety of health care, healthy living and personal and financial safety topics focused on seniors. Events occur several times each month at locations across the West Valley and are presented as a community service. Events with less than 10 reservations are subject to cancellation. Sun Health has launched a Memory Care Navigator program, the newest offering in the Arizona nonprofit organization’s rapidly growing collection of community health programs.
Peoria’s Marty Finley, M.Ed. has been selected as the Sun Health Memory Care Navigator, who will provide personal and professional guidance to patients, family members and caregivers coping with the emotional, psychological and physical effects of dementia. The Navigator will prepare a plan of care individualized to their needs, and will serve as a liaison between patients and families, their physicians and ancillary community services. Continue reading
Michael L. Mandell has been elected as the new chairman of the Arizona nonprofit Sun Health Foundation Board of Trustees for the 2014 fiscal year beginning July 1.
Mandell, a resident of Corte Bella in Sun City West, is a retired executive who has lived in the Northwest Valley since May, 2006. He previously served as the Board’s vice chairman and as chairman of the Board’s Planned Giving Committee. Continue reading
