Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Oxygen plays an important role in wound healing, but not every non-healing wound will benefit from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which was originally developed for the treatment of decompression sickness in divers. Since the 1960s, HBOT has been used to treat many other conditions, including:
- Air/gas embolisms
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Cyanide poisoning
- Crush injuries
- Necrotizing soft-tissue infections
- Exceptional blood loss anemia
- Failed skin grafts and flaps
- Gas gangrene
- Radiation injuries to tissue and bone
- Non-healing osteomyelitis
- Selected non-healing wounds
