The Background

Founded in 1986, Banner Sun Health Research Institute has made a significant impact on our community. Scientists and physicians at the institute conduct groundbreaking research that led to the development of effective treatments and strategies for the prevention of several diseases.

To support this life-changing research, the research institute developed a program called the Brain and Body Donation Program. This program allows individuals to agree to generously donate their body to science after they’ve passed. Body donation plays a critical role in continuing to make progress towards the prevention of age-related diseases at Banner Sun Health Research Institute. In fact, more than 1,600 local residents have donated their brain or tissue through this program. Among this accomplishment, Banner Sun Health Research Institute has been designated as one of just 31 Alzheimer’s Disease Centers in the nation and is the only Arizona, state-sponsored Parkinson’s Disease Center.
